Carmine was interviewed by Andrew Keen of TechCrunch TV about Foursquare and his book The Power of Foursquare.
Is foursquare doing a kleenex and becoming a noun? Judging from the cover of Carmine Gallo’s new book, The Power of foursquare: 7 Innovative Ways to Get Your Customers To Check In Wherever They Are, it is certainly on the way to becoming a word synonymous with location services. And indeed with the “sale” of Gowalla to Facebook, it does seem as if foursquare is now becoming the fairly undisputed mayor of the location space.
But as Gallo explained to me when he came into our TechCrunchTV studio last week, foursquare still has much to do to lock up this space. While he is impressed with the 500,000 merchants now on foursquare, he feels the service will have to attract many more small businesses if it is to remain compelling to its millions of users. That said, what Carmine Gallo loves about foursquare is that it creates “fanatical” users who check in wherever they are in the world. That’s why, Gallo insists, all small businesses should be on foursquare; and that’s also why, he explains, Dennis Crowley’s company has a great chance of dominating this increasingly lucrative vertical.
This is the second part of a two part interview with Gallo. Yesterday, the communications expert revealed the innovation and presentation secrets of Steve Jobs.
